A Year in the Life of a Well Designed Home

Every home has a story, and the most effortless, beautiful ones don’t begin on demo day. They start months before drawings, bids, or tile samples, when ideas are still taking shape and the right team is coming together. This series opens a window into the LSID process: the quiet early decisions that save time and avoid costly revisions, the collaborations that bring clarity to construction, and the layered details that make a home feel deeply personal.

Over the next year, we’ll guide you through each phase of a project, from the earliest “we’re thinking about renovating/building…” moment to the final styling that completes the space. Along the way, you’ll learn why bringing a designer on early doesn’t just elevate the end result, it transforms the entire experience.

When to Bring Your Designer On Board:

Before the Beginning

The most transformative projects begin long  before the first drawing is drafted. Early conversations, when the scope is  still fluid and ideas are taking shape, are where LSID brings the greatest  clarity. We collaborate with architects from the start, shaping how the home  will live, flow, and support daily rituals. A year out might feel premature, but it’s often exactly when the decisions that matter most are made.

During the Hearth and Stone build, timing was everything. Reviewing the early plans, we noticed a design oversight: the dining room faced directly toward a bathroom. By rethinking the layout and relocating the door, we protected the room’s sense of intimacy…a small adjustment that made a meaningful difference.
