WELL SUITED
This Mission Hills ranch has been upgraded in thoughtful phases, each one refining how the home lives, gathers, and adapts over time. What began as a balance between entertainment and quiet retreat has become a more layered expression of modern living- considered, but never overworked
The dining room, redefined in deep, atmospheric color, set the tone for the home’s evolution: rich, intentional, and grounded. From there, the sunroom, bright in contrast with full light on 3 sides, was lifted in both height and clarity, its raised ceiling and updated finishes creating a backdrop for mid-century furnishings. In the primary bedroom, a custom walnut headboard, running the entire room’s width, wraps an existing window, integrating storage, lighting, and nightstands into one continuous gesture.
In the bathroom, daylight is let into the shower by balancing glass to each side of a solid feature wall, which acts as a backdrop to the freestanding soaking tub. A clever ceiling cove holds the shower vent fan as well as linear LED lighting and a sconce that brighten the room while washing textured wall tiles that are of the same stone as the floor.

Once a guest bedroom, the closet transformed into a luxurious, yet efficient space with full-height storage. Shifting to natural white oak added lightness against existing dark floors and leathered black quartzite. The resulting bedroom suite is a calming, cozy retreat – a modern interpretation of timeless style, perfect for unwinding at the end of the day.
The most recent phase focused on the entry, living room, hall, bar, and TV room, spaces that shape daily movement and gathering. Here, studying the architecture revealed an opportunity for continuity. The entry, hall, and living spaces carried three distinct ceiling heights; by lifting them to their maximum, the home immediately felt more open, more unified, and better suited to how it is lived in.
Off the hallway, a former closet became a bar. A vertical stone slab anchors the space, while walnut storage absorbs overflow and echoes details from earlier phases. Integrated lighting allows bottles to softly glow, turning a once-hidden space into a luminous threshold.
In the living room, rich fabrics and layered textures soften the space, with a textile wallcovering and embroidered drapery setting the tone. Original side tables blend seamlessly with the refreshed palette, while a sconce with moveable arms adds depth and variability to the light. A console with a subtly vintage feel introduces additional pattern and character, grounding the room’s mix of old and new. At the fireplace, swivel chairs and a reupholstered leather ottoman create a flexible, welcoming zone for gathering, flanked by new sconces that balance the composition. A generous coffee table and a custom bench anchor the arrangement, inviting the room to be lived in. The TV room was refined with lighter interventions: new furniture and rug set a calmer tone and existing shelving was restyled for clarity and ease.
Across each phase, the intention remains the same: to refine without erasing, and to let the home become increasingly well suited to the life it holds.
