The Modern Villa lower level began as a spacious but cool, modern room that felt disconnected from the Spanish-style warmth found throughout the rest of the home. As the family’s main gathering space, it needed to feel more inviting and intentional. We began by reimagining the fireplace as the heart of the room, cladding it in handmade terracotta tile and adding a new hearth in Calacatta Vagli Gold marble with rust-toned veining to echo that warmth. The firebox was enlarged for greater presence, with burning spheres adding a sculptural touch.

Above, the original fireplace anchors the room, while hearth studies allow us to take a look at stone options, leading to the final selection.
To ground the large volume of the space, we introduced a wood-clad ceiling with integrated lighting, creating a softer, more intimate atmosphere. Layered textiles- rugs, pillows, and draperies- added comfort, color, and a sense of story.
The result is a space that feels cohesive and welcoming, transformed from a cool lower level into a warm, connected gathering place that reflects how the family truly lives.

The warmed up space, full of texture, is ready for cozy nights in.
